A passionate facilitator and performer who wholeheartedly believes in the importance of accessibility in the arts, particularly for young people.
Performing Arts has always been at the core of Rachel’s personal and professional life. In her youth, she dedicated her time to learning as much as possible about her craft through books, workshops, education and personal development; through this she gained a Grade 6 Distinction in Musical Theatre and a Triple Grade Distinction National Diploma in Performing Arts. Since 2009 she has performed, written and directed plays, whilst also gaining knowledge and skills through her experience working in administration and retail.
Since 2013 Rachel has enjoyed working with children in a primary school setting as a Play Leader, Teaching Assistant and Drama Club Lead. Her original drama club, which has been running since 2017, is a space that is inclusive and open to students of all abilities and backgrounds; where young people can grow in confidence and develop their passion for the performing arts. The children themselves helped to create a safe space where they could make friends, learn valuable skills, and grow as artists and performers in a community with respect at the heart of it.
As a working-class Plymothian, Rachel understands the importance of accessibility to the arts. She established ‘Safe Space Theatre’ with the aim to provide respectful and sensitive workshops and performances that encourage learning, individuality, confidence, and creativity amongst communities in Devon and Cornwall.
Recently awarded the 2021-2022 Marjon Enterprise Bursary, a grant that supports the pursuit of professional development, towards the start up of Safe Space Theatre.
Rachel gained a BA (First Class Hons) in Performing Arts Education at Plymouth Marjon University, and holds certificates in Emergency Paediatric First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, and Safeguarding Children Level 2.
